Dan Estenson, Lead Wealth Manager, started his career doing accounting and tax work, and the longer he did it, the more he found himself pulled toward the planning side – the long-term strategy, the bigger picture behind the numbers. That instinct eventually led him to Bernicke, where he joined as a paraplanner, earned his CFP® designation, and grew into his current role as a Lead Wealth Manager.
Most people come to Dan thinking financial planning is about their investments. What they discover is how much else is at play: tax strategy, Social Security timing, health insurance coverage before Medicare kicks in, estate planning, and income management. He will tell you that the health insurance piece alone surprises more clients than almost anything else, and that starting a long-term tax plan five or more years before retirement is one of the most valuable things a person can do.
When he is not at work, Dan is at his family’s farm, managing the property and trying to leave it better than he found it. He and his wife take a road trip every summer and spend their wedding anniversary on the north shore of Lake Superior every fall. He goes elk hunting out west, fishes, hunts deer and turkey, and will freely admit he has a great sense of humor and is a terrible golfer.
If that sounds like someone you want in your corner, a conversation with Dan is a good place to start.
